Geetha Johri, Gujarat's first woman police officer, is now also its first woman police chief. The 1982 batch officer was appointed Director General of Police a day after the resignation of PP Pandey, an officer whose appointment was challenged because of the murder charges against him in the 2004 Ishrat Jahan encounter case.
Mr Pandey stepped down a month before his tenure was to end.
