Government looks to consolidate RRBs
Regional rural banks may be considered crucial for financial inclusion but they seem to be perpetually suffering from lack of scale and funds. The government is trying to change that with a major consolidation drive by chopping the number of RRBs to 81 by the end of 2008 from 90 last year through mergers.
