On the day when the four accused in the December 16 #delhigangrape case were sentenced to death, the film #Grandmasti - an adult comedy - released in cinemas nationwide. It immediately generated an online controversy with film critics slamming the movie not just for its unintelligent and crass sex jokes, but more specifically for those dialogues on rape which they say are just not funny and in fact, a slap on the face of a nation that has only recently recognised sexual violence against women as a heinous crime. The Censor Board has also come under attack for allowing the movie to be cleared without these cuts. All this while the movie becomes the fourth highest grosser this year. The question is should sexual violence against women be allowed as a joke in movies? We discuss.
