Green Court Bans Waste Disposal In Ganga, Asks To Shift Tanneries
The National Green Tribunal declared 100 metres from the edge of river Ganga as a 'No-Development Zone,' from the stretches of Haridwar to Unnao. The Green Court also prohibited the dumping of waste within 500 metres of the river, and imposed a hefty fine of Rs 50,000 on violators. NGT also instructed the Uttar Pradesh authorities to shift leather tanneries from Jajmau in Kanpur to some appropriate place, within six weeks.
