Supporters of 30-year-old radical preacher and Khalistan sympathiser Amritpal Singh, some of them with swords and guns, broke through barricades and stormed a police station in Ajnala on the outskirts of Amritsar city on Thursday, demanding that his aide Lovepreet Singh alias Toofan, an accused in a case involving kidnapping, be released. A day later, the Punjab police appeared to give in and told a court Toofan was not guilty of the crime he was accused of. Often escorted by armed supporters, radical preacher and Khalistan sympathiser Amritpal Singh has been very active for some time in Punjab.
