In Goa, marigold flowers-highly sought after during festivals like Dussehra, Diwali, and Padwa-were largely supplied by neighboring states like Karnataka and Maharashtra.
However, Goa has reduced its dependence on these states, thanks to the subsidies for local farmers. Led by the Pramod Sawant government and supported by Prime Minister Modi's agricultural initiatives, farmers have expanded marigold cultivation. In 2024, over 400 farmers produced 180 tonnes across 30 hectares, up from just 15 hectares in 2022.
