A decade ago, on this day, a coach of the Sabarmati Express was set on fire killing 59 people, most of them kar sevaks who were returning to Godhra from Ayodhya. The incident triggered a wave of communal riots with the Gujarat administration standing accused of deliberately looking the other way as over 1000 people, many of them Muslims, were killed. A decade later, we step back and look at Gujarat and the lessons from 2002 in this special programme from the Gujarat Vidyapith, a university founded by Mahatma Gandhi in 1920.
