"These are high-end technology bridges. When these bridges are renovated, fatigue assessment has to be done. The stress on the cables needs to be ascertained. These are tasks of experts. For any bridge, load testing has to be done. I think in this case, they were in a hurry to open and these measures were not taken," VN Heggade, fellow of National Academy of Engineering, said when asked what sort of maintenance is needed for suspension bridges.
