Gujarat riot: Compensation announced for victims

The Centre has decided to pay Rs 7 lakh to each of the Gujarat riot victims as compensation - the same amount all the 1984 anti-Sikh-riot-victims were paid. The government has brushed aside any suggestion that this has to do with politics and the UP elections, which are due early next year.
