Gujarat's growing per capita income and development is talked about in glowing terms, but even today, 10 years after the riots, over 50,000 Muslims continue to live in temporary colonies built by voluntary agencies after the riots. There has been no attempt to rehabilitate them or help them move back into their villages by the government. These camps that exist across Ahmedabad, Panchamahals and Sabarkantha are dirty, crowded and cramped with poor access to basic amenities like water, electricity or sanitation.
