Gunfire and Bombings Intensifies In Manipur, CM Biren Slams "Cowardly Attacks"

Manipur's fragile peace was shaken as fresh violence erupted between two ethnic groups on December 27. Several civilians and security personnel were injured during a gunfight with armed men in the Sanasabi and Thamnapokpi villages of Imphal East. Heavy firing from Yaingangpokpi Uyokching Hill towards a Meitei village has been ongoing since December 24. In a social media post on X, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh condemned the attacks on December 28, describing them as “cowardly and unprovoked.” He also urged calm and unity, assuring the public that necessary measures are being taken to handle the situation.
