A congress leader died in Guwahati after he allegedly sustained injuries during police action on protesters from Congress party during a demonstration of political dissent. Hundreds of Assam Congress workers staged a protest outside the Raj Bhawan in Guwahati earlier today calling for action against the Modi government. The protest, organised by the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), led to police detaining several protesters. The protest was met with heavy security, and authorities were quick to disperse the crowd. The incident highlights the growing tensions between the Assam Congress and the state and central governments over various political and socio-economic issues. Congress alleges that one of its supporters named Mridul Islam had sustained injuries from a tear gas shell and was rushed to Guwahati medical College where he succumbed to his injuries.
