Bengal Finance Minister Amit Mitra today referred to the 2020 Budget as "disappointing and directionless". Citing decline in GDP, private consumption expenditure, investment, manufacturing and the country slipping places in the Global Hunger Index, Global Social Mobility Index and the Democracy Index, Mr Mitra said that there is a qualitative decline in the economy's supply chain management. "In such a scenario, I would have expected a budget that takes risks, that wants to bring the economy out of its stupor with bold moves," he told NDTV.
