The play 'Happy Birthday Sunita' has made an invaluable contribution to the world of theatre, because it has addressed what is largely just a Bollywood-watching audience that has never entered a theatre hall. So what Rifco Arts did was start telling tales about the British Asian community in a language that they understood. Pravesh Kumar, director of 'Happy Birthday Sunita' says, "Earlier on, we were doing English classics with Indian actors. Now we are starting to tell our stories and I think that's really important." Scripts mirroring the concerns of the community, at a time when the contribution of migrants is being questioned by a rising right-wing, the UKIP party, are leading the attack from the front. What should be discussed more, according to the writers, are the dysfunctional attitudes within the communities to effectively counter forces of hate.
