Heavy rains over the past 2-3 days have caused the Jhumi river to rise above dangerous levels, leading to widespread flooding in the Ghatal sub-division of West Bengal's Paschim Medinipur district.

The deluge has resulted in the destruction of 12 wooden bridges across the river, severely impacting transportation and leaving many residents stranded.
