Amid all the gloom and hopelessness around the coronavirus pandemic and vaccine presumably still some time away, three drugs that have given hope to the world. Dexamethasone - a steroid that in UK trials showed improved survival rates and is already being used by Indian doctors. Favipiravir - for use of mildly symptomatic patients and is not a prophylactic. The third important drug is Remdesivir, for the generic manufacture of which Hetero Drugs and Cipla have got the licence from US-based Gilead Sciences. ICMR has just given the nod for its emergency use. Hetero Drugs Managing Director Malle Srinivas Reddy spoke exclusively to NDTV's Uma Sudhir and explained why Remdesivir -- that they are marketing as Covifor -- offers hope and that there will be adequate supply, so no need to panic.
