How long should we wait for consensus? Omar on AFSPA
Amidst a raging controversy over a partial withdrawal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in Jammu and Kashmir, the state's Chief Minister has said that the time has come to stop waiting for an elusive consensus and take a chance with his peace proposal. In his first detailed interview since the debate erupted, Omar Abdullah told NDTV that he has stuck his neck out and he stands by his intention. Asked about accusations of unilateralism and not taking the Army along with him, the Chief Minister said he would call another meeting of the unified command to discuss the issue formally.
