How Mother To Baby Transmission Of HIV Can Be Prevented In India
Every year, 6,500 children are born with HIV in India, according to various estimates. One-third of them die before their first birthday and half of them do not get to see their second. National AIDS Control Organisation or NACO's programme, launched 14 years ago, provides utmost care to the women during pregnancy and childbirth. At BJ Medical College in Pune's Sassoon General Hospital, one of the prime centres where the NACO programme is run; services to detect HIV infection among pregnant women are available on their very first contact with the health system.
