An investigation by the Wall Street Journal in the US found that the Meta owned social media platform Instagram's algorithm helped connect and promote a vast network of accounts openly devoted to the commission and purchase of underage sexual content, primarily allowing paedophiles to not just search, but also purchase child sexual content through certain hashtags.
