The situation in Panchkula and Sirsa, the Haryana towns seared by violence yesterday after self-appointed "godman" Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was convicted of rape, is "very tense but under control", the Home Ministry has said. 31 people were killed and over 250 were injured in deadly clashes that followed the court verdict. Ram Rahim, the chief of the Dera Sacha Sauda, will be sentenced on Monday; he has been kept in a special prison cell in Rohtak. There is huge Army presence near the headquarters of the sect in Sirsa. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is meeting top officials to review the security situation.
