Hyderabad To Delhi: Why Can't Our Cities Combat Rains?
The monsoon continued to ravage India's premier cities - seven were killed in Hyderabad due to rain-related accidents. Up north, Delhi and Gurgaon braced for massive traffic jams as unusually heavy rain came pouring down again, reminding residents of the July deluge. As commuters complained of waterlogged roads and poor connectivity, the Gurgaon police issued advisories asking commuters to avoid waterlogged roads. Opposition politicians protested on the roads in boats, accusing Arvind Kejriwal and his government of leaving the city to fend for itself. The Delhi High Court minced no words too, with judges stating, "There is no justification for clogged drains. We cannot tolerate this year after year."
