Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, who piloted the bill to make instant Triple Talaq a criminal offence through Lok Sabha on Wednesday, called the passage of the legislation to restore dignity of Muslim women a "historic day". Mr Prasad also countered the charge that politics, and not gender equality, had motivated the NDA government to push through the law that makes violation of a civil contract, a criminal law.
