Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi on Saturday said that income tax reliefs only benefit 7 crore people, as the remaining 135 crore of the population have earnings under the tax threshold. She was referring to the income tax relief announced in the Union Budget while addressing a poll rally near Delhi's Jama Masjid. "It's fine that they have exempted taxes for people earning up to Rs 12 lakh. But tell me, how many people in the country are earning that much and can actually pay taxes? Only 7 crore people are paying taxes, while 135 crore people are unable to pay taxes because they aren't even earning that much," she said.
