We are about to complete 70 years of our independence. From being the poster boy of poverty and branded as a land of snake-charmers, India has come a long way. Cynics had doubted whether India would even survive even for a few years with its experiment of being a democratic country amidst a wide range of diversity - religious, linguistic, racial to name a few. Though India has pulled out millions of people from the scourge of poverty, yet several millions still go to bed hungry. The last few decades have seen religious fault lines increasing with fundamentalism rearing its ugly head. While India is now recognised as a soft power, employment generation remains a major headache. Where do we go from here? Will India be able to reclaim its glorious past?
