In India, the history of quality higher education has been synonymous with the IIMs or IITs. Institutions of science, engineering, medicine or business management, liberal arts and humanities have never been a primary concern. In the past five years, private universities claiming a philanthropic model of education say they want to revolutionise liberal arts education in India by bringing the best in teaching and opportunities for students. In India Matters this week, we look at the role of some of these universities drawing from the experience of two based in delhi and the debates they have stirred on higher education.
