The return of the student as political activist - across India from filmmaking to engineering campuses, protests punctuated 2015. Students marched against bans on union elections and non vegetarian canteens. They went on strike for toilets and teachers. They tweeted against discrimination of scheduled caste students. And they staged dharnas against the government's higher education policy. The outcome was a mixed bag of victories and heartbreak but it was a wake-up call for universities to accept that along with academics, dissent too is an integral and generic part of campus life.
