India rejects AIDS drug patent

The Indian patent office has rejected a drug company's claim to patent the syrup form of nevirapine. Nevirapine is a crucial drug to treat AIDS. If the patent had been accepted, poor children living with AIDS, who are too small to swallow tablets, would not have had access to this critical drug.
