The massive inoculation drive against COVID-19 was kickstarted in the country by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 16 after India's drug regulator approved two coronavirus vaccines - Oxford-AstraZeneca's Covishield which is being manufactured by Serum Institute of India and Bharat Biotech's Covaxin for emergency use. A total of 3,006 session sites across all states and Union Territories have been selected for the drive with a target of vaccinating 100 frontline and healthcare workers per day in the first phase.
