India has slammed Bangladesh's comments on the Murshidabad violence calling it an 'unwarranted comment' and said Bangladesh was "indulging in virtue signalling". Â "We reject the remarks made by the Bangladesh side with regard to the incidents in West Bengal," MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said in a strong rebuff to Bangladesh. Bangladesh has come under scrutiny for targeted attacks on minorities and the continued incarceration of a Hindu monk, Chinmoy Krishna Das who led protests demanding the safety and security of Hindus. On Thursday, Bangladesh had issued a statement rejecting accusations that there was involvement of elements from across the border in largescale violence that took place in West Bengal's Murshidabad district. Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam had told reporters, "We strongly refute any attempts to implicate Bangladesh in the communal violence in Murshidabad. We urge the Government of India and West Bengal to take all steps to fully protect the minority Muslim population," he added.
