Ami Bera, an Indian-origin member of the United States House of Representatives from California, talked to NDTV about the mark the Indian community has been making in the US. "My parents migrated from Gujarat in the 1950s and it was a very small community but look where we are today. We have 5 members of congress, we have a democratic nominee for president, we're one per cent of the population, eight to nine per cent of all doctors and tech workers. I think there is a deep connection between the diaspora and our cultural roots in India and I think PM Modi understands that," he said. Talking about the upcoming US elections, he said that he thinks it will be a very close election and that the Indian diaspora could play a big role. "I think it is going to be a very close election. The diaspora can make a big difference. In an election that might be decided by a few thousand votes, if the Indian diaspora comes to vote for Vice President Harris, that could be the difference." He also talked about the Quad meeting and said that it was a "very timely Quad meeting as President Biden wraps up his administration".
