Indian Student Nilam Battles For Life Alone In US, Family's Endless Wait For Emergency Visa

In today's episode of India Global, in a tragic story, Nilam Tanaji Shinde, a 35-year-old woman from Maharashtra's Satara district, is currently battling for her life in a hospital in California after she suffered critical injuries in a road accident. Ms Shinde, a fourth-year student at California State University, is currently in a coma, and her family is seeking the Centre's help to get an American visa immediately as doctors need permission from her blood relatives to operate on her. In a big NDTV Impact story, Shinde's father and brother have been given an expedited visa appointment for tomorrow after earlier being given an appointment for 2026. Travel permits for medical emergencies are normally given quickly. MEA sources said it was unclear what led to the delay in this instance. Meanwhile, The President of the European Commission Ursula Von Der Leyen has begun her visit to India today with her College of Commissioners. This is in fact the first time that the College of Commissioners are visiting India together.
