Indians Are More Prone To Hepatic Steatosis Or Fatty Liver Disease
Fatty liver, or steatosis, is a term that describes the buildup of fat in the liver. While it's normal to have some fat in your liver, more than 5 to 10 percent of your liver weight is fat in the case of fatty liver. Studies have shown that Indians are more prone to fatty liver than our western counterparts - with almost one third of the population in India having this condition. So lets look into what is fatty liver and why does it happen. Doctors On Call also spoke to Dr Nivedita Pandey, a Senior Gastroenterologist in Delhi to find out about the implications of fatty liver on health of an individual.
