Prime Minister Narendra Modi today addressed party workers and supporters at the BJP headquarters in Delhi after the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) retained Bihar for a second straight term in a tightly fought election, the result of which was declared early Wednesday morning after almost 15 hours of counting. Hundreds of supporters and party workers have gathered to celebrate the poll win which came after weeks of gruelling and bitter campaigning amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The NDA eased past the 122-mark and won 125 seats in the 243-member Bihar Assembly. The BJP, with 74 seats, emerged as the second-largest party in the state after RJD, which clinched 75 under Tejashwi Yadav's leadership.

The Congress, a part of the Mahagathbandhan along with the Left and RJD, was completely decimated this election. The party managed to win 19 seats of the 70 it contested.

Chirag Paswan's Lok Janshakti Party, which contested the election alone after a protracted feud, won one seat.

Here are the highlights of the celebrations at BJP headquarters:

Elections Being Conducted Peacefully: PM Modi

There was a time when newspapers on the day after polls would be filled with reports of polling booths being raided, booths being captured. There would be reports of violence. But today, you read news like record turnout for voters, number of women voters exceeding male voters. The votes were conducted peacefully. That in itself speaks a lot about how India has progressed: PM Modi

After the results we saw this morning, I would like to thank each and every single BJP karyakarta for the stellar work you all have done. There were people who used to say that roads, highways, rail lines, ports, airports, better infrastructure, better connectivity, better communication, faster internet, seamless connectivity, 24X7 water and electricity, these things do not matter in elections. You must have heard some people say this. But election after election, we are seeing that the people of India are saying it loud and clear that these are the things that matter and these are what determines who wins. Those who continue to live in denial and in arrogance, you must have heard what is happening with them... People have proven again and again that development of the state and country matters. People have proven the core issue of elections will be development: PM Modi

That is the mantra that guides us, and that is what we are determined to, and that is what rewards us too: PM Modi

You must have read in the news media about "silent voters", about "silent voters" voting for the BJP. The voice of this "silent voter" is now being heard by all. The BJP has a big base of this "silent voter" - and these are women voters.
