Is India ready for mercy killing?

In December 2004, a young man in a Hyderabad hospital, afflicted with muscular dystrophy, made headlines when he sought legal permission to end his life so he could donate his organs. Venkatesh was only able to donate his eyes after his death. His mother says she is against any law that allows the right to die and says she is extremely distressed by parents, desperate to get help, coming forward saying they are seeking mercy-killing for their children.
