Campaigning for the first phase of the assembly election for the first phase in Jammu and Kashmir, scheduled for September 18, drew to a close today. Twenty-four assembly segments spread across Chenab valley districts of Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban, and south Kashmir districts of Anantnag, Pulwama, Kulgam and Shopian are going to polls in the first of the three-phase election on September 18. Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed three rallies in Chenab valley on Monday. He said the Congress and its ally, the National Conference (NC), are “soft” on terrorism and plan to release terrorists and stone-throwers from jails, if the alliance government comes to power, a claim that has been dismissed by NC vice president and ex Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. This is the first assembly election in Jammu and Kashmir after 10 years.
