Some political respite in Jammu and Kashmir's season of discontent. The Congress and National Conference have reached a deal to share Jammu and Kashmir's 90 Assembly seats ahead of next month's election, senior leaders from each side said Monday evening, bringing talks to a successful end hours before the deadline to file nominations for the first phase. The National Conference will contest on 51 seats while the junior partner Congress will fight on 32 seats. The Union Territory goes to polls after a decade traversing treacherous political terrain. The BJP issued its list of candidates only to withdraw it after protests broke out in Jammu. A revised list was issued in two tranches of 16 candidates.
