Jains Protest In Chennai Against Jharkhand Move For Pilgrim Site

Members of the Jain community in Chennai have taken to the streets to protest against the Jharkhand government's decision to convert  their holiest Shrine of Shri Sammed Shikarji Tirth" as a tourist place .They are also up in arms against alleged desecration of the Jain temple at Gujarat's Palitana. Though the union government has put the notification on hold with regard to the Jharkhand shrine, protesters say there is no clarity on ban on construction activity around the shrine . In Gujarat the state government has said it would constitute a special task force to look into the issues raised by the community.
