Jallikattu Uprising: Can State Government Ordinance Be A Solution?

As the unparalleled Jallikattu protests in Tamil Nadu continue, there is, for the first time, a sign that a solution may be in sight. The Attorney General has said that an ordinance can legally be passed by the state government. But while that may deal with the immediate situation, what if this ordinance too gets stayed by the Supreme Court. That only time can tell. Meanwhile, on the ground in Chennai at the Marina beach and now in other parts of Tamil Nadu, other parts of the country and even outside the country, the protests seem to be intensifying. Thousands of people are now for a third night, demanding that Jallikattu, the bull taming sport, be allowed to happen. They say that their Pongal celebrations have been ruined without Jallikattu. Markets, schools and colleges are shut. There are no taxis and autos in places.
