The Kanwar Yatra name display conundrum was paused by the Supreme Court today. The Supreme Court took up a bunch of petitions challenging the Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand governments diktat forcing eateries and street vendors along the Kanwar Yatra route to display the names of the owners prominently. This religious trek cuts through many Muslim-dominated areas and selling food and fruits is a key source of income for many. Implementing the diktat would mean singling out non-Hindu outlets and that's why it has been challenged as being unconstitutional.
