Kargil: Through Our Soldiers' Eyes

It has been 18 years since the Kargil war when 527 of India's bravest and finest laid down their lives to make Operation Vijay the success it was. Their bravery has been immortalised in a handful of books and perhaps a few more films. But, for the first time, a book brings the Kargil war alive in the words of the soldiers themselves. Diksha Dwivedi, the daughter of Major CB Dwivedi who died during the Kargil war, has written Letters from Kargil, a book that is her family's story but also brings together letters written by officers to their families during the time they were engaged in active combat in the world's highest battleground. From tender notes to families written on the eve of battles they might never return from to little-known operational details, letters from Kargil gives us a unique insight into the minds of our soldiers during combat.
