Amid frantic attempts to save Karnataka's coalition government after the resignation of 13 lawmakers last week, state ministers have reportedly been asked to be prepared to quit to make room for the rebels. Congress ministers were invited to breakfast this morning by party leader G Parameshwara, the Deputy Chief Minister. Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy cut short his US holiday and got down to meetings soon after his return last evening. His meeting with leaders of his Janata Dal Secular and the Congress at a luxury hotel ended just before midnight. The JDS is set to move all its lawmakers to a resort to prevent any poaching attempts. The BJP has denied any role in the crisis; its leader BS Yeddyurappa said, "We are not sanyasis (hermits)". The party has called a meeting this evening to assess the situation.
