The images of public flogging of Dalit men in Gujarat's Una district galvanised the already gathering political mobilisation sparked after the death of Hyderabad student Rohith Vemula, much more than the brutal murders and rape of a Dalit family in 2006 in Maharashtra's Khairlanji district. Ten years later, we retrace Khairlanji, which has today become a symbol of extreme caste prejudice.
