Union Minister KJ Alphons said that 1.3 million people are living in relief camps in Kerala and many of them cannot go back home as many houses are in knee-deep silt and there is no electricity, water or toilets in many houses. Mr Alphons said that he was confident of people of Kerala bouncing back, as many young people are working tirelessly to rebuild Kerala. Speaking on the ground situation in Kerala, Mr Alphons said that self-help groups in Kerala are cleaning up houses. De-silting wells and clearing them of water will require plumbers, carpenters and plenty of money, the Union Minister said. Mr Alphons also said that an estimate of how much money is required can only be made once the water recedes completely.
