A big fight is brewing between two Lok Sabha candidates making their debut at Krishnanagar in West Bengal. Trinamool Congress's Mahua Moitra, a former London banker, is taking on BJP's Kalyan Choubey, a former Indian team goalkeeper. Between the two, Ms Moitra of the Trinamool has a slight edge. She fought the Assembly elections in 2016 from the same district and won. Mr Choubey to his credit enjoys considerable backing from the football-loving Bengalis.

The BJP did win the seat in 1999 but the Trinamool has held it in the last two elections.

On the campaign trail, Ms Moitra says Mr Choubey maybe a former goal keeper but she is the centre forward in this election.

In response, Mr Choubey says goalkeepers are also called custodians and he will be the custodian of this seat.

With Krishnagar sharing its borders with Bangladesh, illegal immigration is one of the main issues this election and it promises to be cliffhanger between the two contestants.
