Land bill deadlock: Government running out of options for support?

The government tabled the amended Land Acquisition Bill in Parliament on Monday in the face of protest by the opposition and even some of its own allies like the Akali Dal and the Shiv Sena. If the new bill bringing in crucial changes to the UPA's land act doesn't get passed by March 20, the bill lapses. In this race against time and the numbers stacked against it in the Rajya Sabha, is the government running out of options as it battles for support?

Another Tamil author attacked: Free speech under threat?

We speak to Tamil author Murugesan, the second in the state this year to be attacked for his fiction. The state government is silent on threats to the author. Is there no such thing as absolute freedom of speech?
