Land wars: The caste factor
In a survey conducted last year, the Tamil Nadu Untouchability Eradication Front documented more than 80 forms of discrimination still being practised in the state. Wherever Dalits fight discrimination, they are being increasingly denied access to village common land and its resources. In one village in the Tuticorin district, Dalits have been living in a fenced enclosure for the last seven years.
