In September 2015, then seven-month-old Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi had floated the idea of reducing the legal drinking age in the national capital. This policy has now become a reality as the Delhi government looks to increase its revenue. However, this is not just a problem for the national capital to tackle. Around 60% of India's 28 states and 8 Union Territories allow alcohol consumption from the age of 23 and below. Only five - Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Dadra & Nagar Haveli - bar all alcohol consumption until the age of 25.
