The Okhla landfill in Delhi is one of the largest waste disposal sites in the city. It is located near residential colonies and has become a pressing environmental and health concern due to its unregulated and overburdened waste management practices. It has exceeded its capacity by multiple times, leading to towering heaps of garbage. As Delhi gears up for elections, NDTV's Ahtasham Khan visited the VP Singh Camp in Tughlakabad, a slum located near the Okhla landfill. Home to thousands, the area is plagued by appalling living conditions and a lack of basic amenities such as proper roads, access to clean drinking water, and functional sewage systems. The proximity to the landfill exposes inhabitants to toxic air, flying debris, and frequent flooding during the rainy season. These conditions have resulted in severe health issues, further exacerbating the challenges faced by the community.
