The Haryana and Maharashtra state election campaigning could have been around a whole host of local issues. Economy, farmer distress, unemployment, drought, poverty, reservation for specific castes but what we have heard all through election campaigning is a discourse around the abrogation of Article 370 in Kashmir, implementation of Assam's NRC all over the country and only very recently ,the promise of giving Bharat Ratna to Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. The BJP has been winning elections on its own terms - challenging conventional campaigning wisdom. We find that even in many municipal elections, emotive issues like 370 has been spoken about, and in some cases, even worked. So on The Big Fight tonight, we ask just one simple question. Are local issues dead in elections? The problems may exist in real life, but do they simply not matter when voters go out and vote?
