With the world celebrating International Tiger Day, the government released an estimate on the number of tigers in the country. The largest tiger population of 785 is in Madhya Pradesh, followed by Karnataka (563), Uttarakhand (560), and Maharashtra (444). As per data, the population had grown by 200 from 2018 to 2022. The current tiger population in India is 3,167, up from 2,967 in 2018. India has made a concerted effort to save the tigers under Project Tiger.
